Magaliesberg evening. Oil on canvas 20″×24″
I have spent many amazing days hiking and climbing in the magaliesberg mountains near Johannesburg. On many occasions I have been hiking back to the car as the sun is setting and not even startled small klipspringer. They stand dead still and wait for you to go by.

Afternoon Shade. Oil on board 36″×24″ 2008.
African Wild Dog. Oil on board. 20″×30″
An endangered species on the Red Data List, they are among my favourite carnivores. Sadly, in 2015 it was estimated that less than 450 individuals were left in South Africa.
Lapalala wilderness. Oil on board 60cm x 75cm. 2001
A bit of an experiment with depth and a learning experience almost 15 years ago. For a long time I was too daunted to paint clouds. It’s a pity because this painting would be much more evocative with a late afternoon thunderstorm brewing behind the hills.

Kylie. Oil on sketch paper 20cm x 24cm 1994.
A really special member of our family who belonged to Debbie before we were married and lived to a glorious old age. She now has pride of place above the piano.
Wild Dogs of Kruger. Oil on board 20″ ×30″.
A commission that I wasn’t convinced was going to work. I thought the Wild Dogs would look better facing the other way. I didn’t have my way and it’s probably a good thing because I think it turned out better this way. I’m sad I had to let this one go.
Waterberg Rhinos. Oil on canvas. 2015
The bushveld of the Waterberg is a special place with African syringas, River Bushwillows and Acacia trees. Unbelievably beautiful especially at sunset.
