An endangered species on the Red Data List, they are among my favourite carnivores. Sadly, in 2015 it was estimated that less than 450 individuals were left in South Africa.

Lapalala wilderness. Oil on board 60cm x 75cm. 2001
A bit of an experiment with depth and a learning experience almost 15 years ago. For a long time I was too daunted to paint clouds. It’s a pity because this painting would be much more evocative with a late afternoon thunderstorm brewing behind the hills.

A really special member of our family who belonged to Debbie before we were married and lived to a glorious old age. She now has pride of place above the piano.

A commission that I wasn’t convinced was going to work. I thought the Wild Dogs would look better facing the other way. I didn’t have my way and it’s probably a good thing because I think it turned out better this way. I’m sad I had to let this one go.
Waterberg Rhinos. Oil on canvas. 2015
The bushveld of the Waterberg is a special place with African syringas, River Bushwillows and Acacia trees. Unbelievably beautiful especially at sunset.

Painted from photos I took while travelling through Jordan in 2012. Probably one of the most inspiring places I have ever visited.
